Brighton studio flat scheme receives green light

Property developer Alumno has successfully secured permission from Brighton and Hove council’s planning committee to build all-new student accommodation on a site on Lewes Road.

After a comprehensive consultation process, the new scheme has been given the go ahead to erect apartments that will mainly provide residences for students completing courses at Brighton’s Screen and Film school. The extensive project saw the developers work closely alongside the college to give it a cinematic style to appeal to its future occupants, including a screening room for films to be viewed.

Based in Brighton – the only city in the UK to have a Green Party MP – the new accommodation also acknowledges the environment, with many sustainable features built into its structure. Forward-thinking architects in Chester, Brighton and other prominent UK cities are increasingly focused on the sustainability of both materials and designs, futureproofing construction work for many years to come.

The new student accommodation will benefit from lighting solutions that require low energy to run, a green roof top, efficient heating and renewable energy use collected by solar panels onsite.

Once finished, the new studio flats will offer residences for around 60 students, who will also benefit from several shared external and internal areas they can use for study or relaxation. Those living at the address will also benefit from a host of amenities, including laundry facilities, a gym and a retail area and communal café situated within the basement and ground floor of the building.
