Extra care residential project almost complete

A Wirral housing scheme providing extra care is now nearing completion, with construction of 78 new apartments almost finished.

The residential project, based in the Merseyside village of Saughall Massie, is presented by the Alpha Living housing association and named “Poppyfields”. The scheme is on schedule, with an opening date planned for spring 2021.

The development has been designed to offer over 55s an opportunity for independent living, supported by round the clock care whenever it is required. The secure accommodation will include controlled admittance to residences and a call function for emergencies, with both services monitored from a centralised hub.

Chief Executive for Alpha Living, Graeme Foster, commented:

“People that are likely to be eligible and will benefit most from Poppyfields will be those struggling to manage in their own home and needing a little extra help to live independently.”

Professional architects on the Wirral can provide expert assistance when designing residential schemes that offer extra care, considering access and mobility concerns in the early stages when plans are drawn up.

Poppyfields has been created with the needs of its future residents in mind. Physical requirements will be well taken care of, from two course meals served daily at the onsite restaurant to outdoor areas for fresh air and hair salons for pampering.

In terms of emotional needs, the scheme has been developed to battle loneliness with shared activities and communal areas, including the courtyard garden and a dedicated lounge allowing residents to interact and spend time together.
