In the North Wales town of Mold, owners of a brick estate house were looking for a stylish way to add more open-plan space to their premises, and asked us to design a rear extension that catered to both indoor and outdoor living.

The site was a corner plot, with a need to be respectful of the clients’ neighbors in the work we carried out. Another obstacle was the position of the first-floor windows, which limited our options in terms of roof installation. We needed to overcome these barriers to deliver an extension that met the clients’ demands for natural light and a feeling of open space.

We proposed a grassed flat roof extension, clad in a copper-coated metal profile system. The materials and form allowed the scheme to enhance the existing building and create the open planning living accommodation required by the clients. Large bifold door openings provided a connection to the garden space.
